His Worship the Mayor for Zomba city Councillor Christopher Jana has called upon participants of the Zomba City Festival (ZCF) to fully enjoy the exciting activities and explore the rich culture of Zomba.
The Mayor made the remarks on Friday, May 2 during the opening ceremony of the festival held at University of Malawi’s Great Hall.
“The festival comes with diverse range of activities and attractions in almost all areas of art. We also have several places of interest in Zomba such as Haile Selassie view, Queens’s View and other places that you must see”.
Jana: Zomba is a beautiful city
The Guest of Honour, the Deputy Minister of Local Government, Unity and Culture, Joyce Chitsulo assured participants of the government’s commitment to provide resources to the industry.
“We are happy as government to see that this cultural festival is happening in Zomba. Nowadays people are making money through arts, so I believe that through this platform young artists will learn a couple of things”.
Chitsulo: Art is business
The opening ceremony started with a vibrant parade, led by the Malawi Prison Brass Band.
The festival, running until May 4, features exciting elements such as family fun, children activities, guided historical tours, traditional dance, hiking, art exhibitions, poetry, theatre and music.
