Yesterday, Zomba City Council (ZCC) held an engagement meeting with successful shop applicants for the newly constructed depot shops at Zomba Community Hall.
Addressing the successful applicants, the Director of Finance James Mafunga, outlined procedures for distribution, allocation, and issues to do with rental fee payments.
The director said that shops behind the depot are ready for occupation from 1st September 2025, whereas those close to Namiwawa Road will be completed in two months’ time.
During the meeting, terms and conditions were also given, ensuring the successful applicants understood their role in caring for the council properties.
The council has advised the occupants to make a 3 months payment and sign the tenancy agreement to confirm their occupation.
ZCC has built the 90 shops with support from Development Fund for Local Authorities (DFLA).
The shops will provide affordable spaces for local businesses and improve the economy in Zomba City.
