The Zomba City Council (ZCC) HIV/AIDS Coordinating Committee and the Zomba District Council (ZDC) HIV/AIDS Coordinating Committee have been briefed by the Malawi AIDS Counselling and Resource Organization (MACRO) on projects it is currently implementing in the district.

In a meeting at Civic Office Chamber today, MACRO highlighted the three major projects it is implementing in Zomba City and District – SCORE 95, Recency, and EPIC.

    Participants: listening and sharing ideas

The SCORE 95 project works towards the global 95-95-95 targets: ensuring that 95% of the total population undergo HIV testing, 95% of those testing positive are initiated on antiretroviral therapy (ART), and 95% of those on ART achieve viral load suppression.

The Recency project focuses on identifying new HIV infections within the past 12 months, monitoring whether those affected have enrolled in ART, and following up on any treatment defaulters.

The EPIC project aims to achieve and sustain HIV epidemic control among key populations, particularly women at risk.

During the meeting, MACRO reported various successes in Zomba, including strong HIV testing coverage, effective collaboration with the Ministry of Health (MOH), the City Executive Committee (CEC), the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation (EGPAF), and other partners, as well as high retention rates in case management.

Participants at the meeting included representatives from HIV/AIDS implementing partners such as MACRO EPIC, EGPAF, Action Hope Namibia (Anapa), community-based organisations (CBOs), civil society organisations (CSOs), religious leaders, and other stakeholders.
