Zomba City Council has received a major boost in its fire emergency operations following the borrowing of a fully equipped fire engine from Blantyre City Council.
The initiative is aimed at enhancing the Council’s capacity to respond quickly and effectively to fire emergencies, protecting lives, property, and infrastructure within the city and the entire eastern region.

Commenting on the development, the Chief Executive Officer for Zomba City Council Archangel Bakolo commended Blantyre City Council for the spirit of cooperation and solidarity shown through this gesture.
“This fire engine will greatly improve our response time and operational efficiency, especially in critical situations where every second counts,” said Bakolo.

Last year, Zomba City Council lost its reliable fire engine and a lead firefighter in an accident, significantly affecting its capacity to respond to fire emergencies.
The Council has since urged residents to play their part in fire prevention by observing safety measures and reporting incidents immediately to the fire section.
The collaboration reflects the growing importance of inter-city partnerships in improving service delivery and ensuring community safety.
