• The Mayor Lauds FDH Bank for Improving Standards in Mayors Trophy

    His Worship, the Mayor Councillor Christopher Jana, has expressed his satisfaction with the high standards displayed during the FDH Mayors Trophy Finals held at Malawi Police College Ground in Zomba.

    The Mayor made the remarks on Friday after witnessing a colourful competition, where young athletes showcased their skills in football, netball, and athletics.

    “I am impressed with the support we have received from FDH bank which has improved the standards of games this year,” said the Mayor, highlighting the efforts done by the bank. The Mayor then appealed to people to support the bank through opening accounts with the bank.

    In his remarks, the Deputy Managing Director of FDH Bank plc, George Chitera stated that he expects the young athletes to represent Malawi at the elite level in the future.

    Chitera emphasized the importance of parental support in nurturing the talents of these young athletes. “Let me request the parents of these children to keep on encouraging their children. Not everyone will be in office, so if you know your children have a talent, encourage them to fulfill it,” he said.

    During the matches, Cobbe Barracks Primary won in netball after defeating Police Primary school while in football Police Primary School outclassed Chikowi Primary School.

    There were also athletics where youths battled in 100 and 200 metres. In girls, 100 metres race, Jane Mpunga of Chikowi Primary school emerged the winner whereas in the 200 metres race Hamida Chamoto of Bwaila Primary school scooped the first position. In the 100 metres boys race, Chrispin Nkhoma of Chikowi primary came top while Zandire Anderson of Matiti Primary School won the 200 metres race.

    FDH Bank also sponsors the Mayors Trophy in Lilongwe and Mzuzu, as well as the intercity program, which brings together champions from the four cities to compete.
