• ZCC visits Zomba Central Prison, CEO commends Leadership

    Today, Zomba City Council Officials, led by the Chief Executive Officer, Archangel Bakolo visited Zomba Central Prison to appreciate various programmes under the rehabilitation, reformation and industry division at the prison industrial workshop.

    The CEO and the entire team toured the industrial workshop to witness how the service is helping the inmates to acquire vocational skills under the Welding, Pottery, Carpentry, Tailoring and Barbary section.

    In his remarks, the CEO commended the leadership and officers of ZCP for taking a bold step in implementing their strategic plan ensuring that inmates are not kept idle.

    In response to the request raised by various section heads, the CEO promised to offer them a space where they can exhibit their products to the general public. He stated that ZCC is committed to providing a conducive environment for the prosperity of their products and services.

    On his part, the Deputy Commissioner of Prisons (DCP) who is the Officer In-charge Austin Nyoni outlined the institution’s readiness to increase production such as adequate budgetary allocation from government in the 2025/2026 fiscal year, availability of skilled and unskilled labour and procurement of sophisticated sewing machines.

    Prisoners who are about to complete their sentences are equipped with various skills to sustain themselves when their sentences are over.

    ZCC intends to collaborate with ZCP on short and long term basis with the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) soon to be signed between the two parties. The collaboration aims at creating a sustainable and inclusive wealth creation and self-reliance platform aligning with the Malawi Vision2063.
