Zomba City Council (ZCC) has trained the Search and Rescue taskforce under the City Disaster Risk Management Committee (CDRMC) on search and rescue, first aid and camp management in the wake of the 2024/25 rainy season.
Speaking at the end of the three days training, Mark Liwonde, the City Resilience Coordinator, highlighted the relevance of the training to the participants as it prepares them to lead their communities in disaster preparedness, response and recovery.
“As we are moving towards the rainy season the weather forecast shows that we will experience weak La Nina which is sometimes associated with flooding. Communities need to prepare; in case of a disaster they must save themselves and others before the coming in of other agents.”
Distinguished facilitators touched base on the need for the taskforce to ensure that are alert to ably apply the skills they have learnt. The facilitators comprised of officers from Fire Department, Marine Unit and Malawi Red Cross.
The training was held through Echo project with funding from European Union.
