• ZCC Holds the Green and Clean Parade, Commemorates International Day of Climate Action

    In a bid to promote environmental stewardship, Zomba City Council held the Green and Clean Solidarity Parade and Commemorated the International Day of Climate Action on Thursday. The event which started with a solidarity parade sought to empower residents of Zomba to adopt a proactive role in combating all the malpractices which endanger the environment. The parade started at Matawale turn-off, with various institutions exhibiting messages on waste management, climate change, plastic pollution and environment protection. As part of demonstrating sustainable practices required for the protection of the environment there was symbolic tree planting management at Zomba Botanical Gardens. His Worship, the Mayor for Zomba City Council and the Director for Leadership for Environment and Development (LEAD), Professor Sosten Chiotha led the activity.

    During the event there were also exhibitions where various stakeholders such as Waste Advisors, LEAD and Lake Chirwa Basin Management Trust (LCBMT), National Herbarium and Botanic Gardens (NHBG) showcased what they do in protecting the environment.

    In his speech, the Mayor for Zomba City Council hailed the tremendous work of the stakeholders in supporting the event citing that it showed their commitment towards restoring the greenery nature of Zomba City.

    Zomba Prison Cultural Troupe cheered the audience

    The event was graced by performances by Malawi Defence Force Brass Band and Zomba Prison Cultural Troupe which performed traditional dances such as Vimbuza and Gulewamkulu.
