His Worship, the Mayor for Zomba City Councillor Christopher Jana has commended residents for their active participation in the Monthly Clean-up Day exercises in their wards, aligning with the council’s vision.

The Mayor made the remarks yesterday at Ngongomwa market in Chambo ward during a clean up exercise, expressing his excitement with the level of seriousness shown by residents in observing the day.

Last year, Likangala was recognized as the cleanest ward in Malawi by Malawi Local Government Association (MALGA) which demonstrates the city’s commitment to cleanliness.

The Mayor’s presence in the exercise is part of sensitisation to organizations, schools, communities and individuals to responsibly take care of the surroundings and to maintain hygienic standards.

Notable participants included councilors, officers from Zomba City Council, Greencare Waste Solutions, Youth Net and Counseling (YONECO), traditional leaders, various local structures and students.

The National Clean-up Day Campaign was launched by President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera in November, 2020, aiming at promoting organized and individual clean up events, volunteering and community involvement in keeping public spaces clean.

The exercise aligns with one of the pillars of Malawi Vision 2063, Environmental Sustainability which emphasizes the importance of keeping environment clean and preserving natural resources.
